Suspect facing intoxication manslaughter charges in crash that killed 81-year-old, injured 4 people

The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the woman as Viriginia Alaniz

SAN ANTONIO – A 51-year-old man is facing charges of intoxication manslaughter following a three-vehicle crash on the Southeast Side that resulted in the death of an 80-year-old woman.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the woman as Virginia Alaniz on Monday morning.

The crash happened around 4 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of South Presa Street and the Southeast Loop 410 access road.

San Antonio police reported that the suspect was driving at a high speed on the frontage road when he collided with a vehicle stopped at a red light, crashing it into another vehicle.

The suspect was found to be driving while intoxicated and was transported to a hospital, police said. Once released, he will be booked for intoxication manslaughter and for the injury to another passenger, according to SAPD.

Alaniz was the front right passenger in the second vehicle. A 21-year-old victim in the same vehicle suffered a possible broken leg and was taken to a hospital. Another passenger was also hospitalized as a precaution.
