SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police are investigating a fatal shooting that resulted from a confrontation over stolen packages on the Southeast Side.
Officers responded to the scene just after 10:40 a.m. Wednesday near the 2500 block of Goliad Road after receiving reports of a burglary at an apartment complex.
A gunshot was heard upon the officers arriving, according to police.
Officers found a 33-year-old man with a gunshot wound. The shooter, identified as a 44-year-old man, was standing nearby holding a firearm and was immediately detained for questioning.
Police say the man who was shot was seen stealing packages from apartment doorsteps when the 44-year-old man confronted him.
The situation escalated when the theft suspect assaulted the man and fled the scene on foot.
The 44-year-old man pursued the suspect, who pulled out a knife and a stun gun, threatening him, police said.
The 44-year-old man then drew a firearm and fired a single round, striking the suspect, according to SAPD.
The suspect was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not been released.
The investigation remains ongoing. No charges have been filed at this time.
