1 critically injured, 2 others rushed to hospital following multi-vehicle crash on North Side, SAPD says

Police say the crash began with a speeding driver

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police and fire crews were on the scene of a multi-vehicle crash on the North Side.

The crash was reported around 3:30 p.m. on Loop 410 eastbound near Austin Highway, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

SAPD said a driver entered the highway at a high rate of speed, did not see traffic stopped ahead of them and was not able to slow down before rear-ending a second vehicle.

The officer on the scene said the speeding driver then spun out sideways and collided with two other vehicles.

Fire crews and police confirmed that three people were transported to a local hospital. One of them was transported in critical condition. The other two people suffered non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

Police at the scene told KSAT that four vehicles were involved in a crash.

According to TxDOT, all six eastbound lanes — including both shoulders — were blocked.

Around 4:45 p.m., SAPD said officers were in the process of reopening traffic to one lane on Loop 410.
