How local law enforcement plans to keep people safe attending some of San Antonio’s biggest events

All-American Bowl, MLK March, Rodeo and other events in San Antonio are expected to draw big crowds

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – The deadly New Orleans attack has promoted security concerns across the nation.

Here in San Antonio, several events planned for 2025 are expected to draw hundreds of thousands of people.

From 300,000 people expected to participate in the upcoming MLK March to more than a half-million people at various Fiesta parades, San Antonio draws in big crowds at its events.

In the wake of Wednesday’s attack, KSAT checked in with local law enforcement about how they are preparing to ensure everyone stays safe.

“As a department, we plan months in advance for events like these,” Lt. David Bacareza with the San Antonio Police Department said. “We work with our local state and federal partners in ensuring that proper security measures are in place.”

If you are feeling uneasy going to big events because of recent events in New Orleans, SAPD suggests keeping your plans but also staying vigilant.

“Like I said before, if you see something, say something,” Bacareza said. “The community — they are our force multiplier. They are the ones that help us in preventing crimes.”

Special Agent on Charge Aaron Tapp with the FBI’s San Antonio Field Office sent KSAT the following statement about how the agency prepares to ensure the safety of our community during large events.

“Our hearts go out to the victims and those affected by the attack in New Orleans and the explosion being investigated in Las Vegas,” Tapp said, in part. “While we don’t have information indicating there is a local threat associated with the incidents in New Orleans or Las Vegas, the San Antonio FBI Field Office has been working closely with our local, state and federal law enforcement partners for months to prepare for upcoming events in our communities. We are extremely lucky to have outstanding partners at the San Antonio Police Department, Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, Texas DPS and at the federal level. Together, we are laser-focused on ensuring citizens are safe as they enjoy events like the Rodeo, the NCAA Final Four tournament and other events scheduled for the next few months. Keeping our city and communities safe is a team effort and we need everyone’s help.”

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar also released a statement to KSAT on Thursday.

“As we approach Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the SA Rodeo, and other events, our deputies, in partnership with local and federal authorities, remain committed to ensuring a secure and safe environment for all,” Salazar said, in part. “Comprehensive safety measures are in place to protect event-goers, and we are vigilant and prepared to respond swiftly to any potential threats.”

Here is a list of upcoming 2025 events you can enjoy in San Antonio.
