SAN ANTONIO – If you plan to dine out on New Year’s Eve, you might want to snag your table early.

A new report by Upgraded Points found that the Alamo City ranks among the top five most difficult places in the U.S. to eat at a restaurant on the last day of the year.

The report used OpenTable reservation data to determine how many restaurants were open. Then, it measured the availability of those restaurants based on the number of reservations made.

San Antonio was ranked fifth-most difficult, with 82.8% of restaurants open. New York City was ranked first on the list, with 62.7% of its restaurants open.

Availability was compared to the same day of the week two weeks before to provide a baseline.

While San Antonio’s number of restaurants was strong, securing a reservation was difficult, the report said.

Overall, Upgraded Points found New Year’s Eve was the busiest night for dining out among the five holidays measured (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day). An average of 90% of restaurants were open across 50 U.S. cities.
