Man killed after being shot multiple times in chest near downtown

Shooter has not been located, police say

SAN ANTONIO – A man in his mid-30s is dead after being shot near downtown on Tuesday night, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The shooting happened in the 400 block of Austin Street, just east of Highway 281.

Accoriding to police, a man, also in his mid-30s, was chasing the victim during an altercation. The gunman finally caught up to the man and shot him multiple times in the chest, SAPD said.

It’s unclear what led to the altercation or shooting.

Passersby attempted to help the victim before he was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

The gunman, who was reportedly wearing black clothing and possibly had a dog with him, took off on foot. Police are still looking for him and the weapon used.
