Report: Daniel Day-Lewis retires from acting

DETROIT – Daniel Day-Lewis is done acting - forever.

Variety reports the three-time Oscar winner is calling it quits. Day-Lewis, 60, is considered one of the best actors of his generation.

In a statement to Variety, his spokeswoman confirmed the news: “Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor. He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years. This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject. ”

Daniel Day-Lewis is known for his memorable roles in "Gangs of New York," "Lincoln," "There Will Be Blood," and "The Last of the Mohicans."

He first won Best Actor at the 1990 Academy Awards for "My Left Foot: The Story of Christy Brown."
