SAN ANTONIO – UPDATE (8:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7): The eastbound main lanes of Southwest Loop 410 at Somerset Road reopened Friday morning after a fiery crash involving a big rig Thursday afternoon.
The crash happened at around 3:15 p.m. According to a crash report from the Texas Department of Transportation, the big rig’s front passenger-side tire blew out, causing the driver to lose control and crash into a median barrier.
The impact ruptured the truck’s fuel tank, sparking a fire that quickly spread to the cab.
The driver was able to get out of the truck before it caught fire. The driver was not injured.
The crash also left hazardous materials on the roadway, causing an extended closure of the eastbound lanes overnight. Crews spent several hours cleaning up the scene before reopening the highway around 8:30 a.m. Friday.
ORIGINAL: All eastbound lanes are closed on Southwest Loop 410 at Somerset Road after a multi-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.
The crash was reported at 3:25 p.m. Thursday. The lanes are still closed as of 4:20 a.m. Friday, according to Transguide.
Details about the incident have not been released, and it’s unknown if anyone was injured.
