FBI officials in San Antonio are issuing a warning about the rise in romance scams this time of the year, especially since more people are working from home and spending more time online. According to the FBI, 23,768 people in 2020 fell victims to romance scams with a reported loss of approximately $605,120,598. Romance scams occur when a criminal adopts a fake online identity to gain a victim’s affection and trust and uses the illusion of a romantic or close relationship to manipulate and/or steal from the victim, FBI officials said. The FBI has provided more information about how to keep safe from romance scams on its website.

Miners in Uruguay recently made a once-in-a-lifetime type of discovery when they uncovered a set of identical geodes shaped in a heart. The heart-shaped geodes feature a white outline of crystals, surrounding a purple middle. WACO, Texas – Anyone who's been to high school knows how dreadful Valentine's Day can be for teenagers. A Texas student didn't want any of the girls at his high school to feel down this year — so he bought every one of them a flower. Jayme Wooley, a sophomore at Axtell High School near Waco, Texas, said he got the idea after seeing some girls not receive any Valentines the year before. Sometimes, it'd just be a secret admirer or popular girls," Wooley told CNN. SAN ANTONIO – Love birds looking for a unique Valentine’s Day experience this year can dine among animals at the San Antonio Zoo. The zoo is hosting its “Wild at Heart” event that features a four-course meal, a glass of wine and a front-row seat to the Africa Live exhibit. Two “zoo-nique” experiences, at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., will take place on Valentine’s Day. Tables for VIP seating, which are directly next to the hippo-viewing window, have sold out at $125 a person. The four-course meal includes a salad, the choice of fried calamari or stuffed mushrooms, the choice of veal osso bucco with four-cheese ravioli or seared barramundi with roasted sweet potatoes, and a dessert.

SAN ANTONIO – If you’re a fan of White Castle sliders but sad that there isn’t a location in the Alamo City, you may be in luck this Valentine’s Day with a one-of-a-kind pop-up experience at H-E-B Alamo Ranch. The fast-food chain says it’s taking its traditional Valentine’s Celebration on the road for the first time, and its first stop will be in San Antonio. White Castle will serve sliders hot off the grill and serve them tableside for two days from 3 to 9 p.m. Feb. 14 and Feb. 15 at the H-E-B at 12125 Alamo Ranch Parkway. Those wanting to get their hands on the piping hot sliders must make a reservation online. The reservation page says prices range from $30 and under.
