The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is considering replacing the elected board of South San Antonio ISD due to long-standing governance issues. Since 2016, the district has faced multiple challenges, including the appointment of a conservator, frequent superintendent changes, and controversial board decisions like reopening and then closing several schools.

South San ISD’s school board voted to give the superintendent the power to lay off employees due to the district’s $12 million deficit.

It’s working now,” said district spokesperson Jennifer Collier. “Our teachers were able to keep in contact with students and parents through apps,” said Collier who also noted that each school uses different apps to keep in touch with students.
