The excitement is building for Fiesta San Antonio 2025, and the McCollum High School Cowboy Marching Band is taking center stage!
Harlandale-McCollum is a neighborhood rooted in rivalry and pride in the South Side. Generations of neighbors have asked, and answered, variations of the same question: Harlandale or McCollum? Indians or Cowboys? There’s a physical divide between the two sides of this neighborhood but also an effort to unite them, especially in times of need.
More than 30 years after they lined up across the field from each other in the Frontier Bowl, two former rivals talk about the 1989 classic. Joseph Farias was and still is a Harlandale Indian; Gabe Cisneros was and still is a McCollum Cowboy. They were from different sides of the McCollum-Harlandale neighborhood. Fate and football brought them together, along with a chance to sit and talk about those old glory days and the community they grew up in.
If you walk around McCollum High School, you'll see five different bookshelves with the sign Cowboys Read! The books filling those shelves are not library books. Instead. these new, current and exciting books are free to students.
Project Destiny aims to connect the younger generation with Destiny’s music while serving as a valuable network for these young individuals and their future endeavors.

SAN ANTONIO – All levels of football games at McCollum High School have been canceled for the next two weeks through Nov. 4 after someone at the school tested positive for COVID-19, district officials said Wednesday. “This is a precautionary measure of safety of our students and staff due to the positive test for COVID-19 of an individual at McCollum High School,” a news release said. As per Texas Education Agency Public Health Planning Guidance, teachers, staff and families of all students will be notified of the positive case. Freshman, junior varsity and varsity games against Buda Johnson and Dripping Springs were canceled. “The safety and well being of our students and staff is our main priority and we will continue to follow our COVID-19 safety procedures and monitor exposure risks,” the news release said.

SAN ANTONIO – Harlandale Independent School District police and McCollum High School administrators opened an investigation Thursday after a student reportedly brought a gun on campus. Principal Jacob Garcia notified parents of the incident in a letter. Student found with loaded gun at San Antonio middle school“The weapon was confiscated and immediate disciplinary action will be taken," Garcia wrote. “The safety of our students and staff is always our absolute top priority, and we will take every precaution to ensure they have a safe and secure learning environment including the continued daily presence of Harlandale ISD Police Officers at every campus.”Harlandale officials did not specify if the gun was loaded. 16-year-old student taken into custody after weapon found on Northside ISD campus“Please take this opportunity to remind your students that threats of violence are taken very seriously, and the person responsible could face disciplinary action and even criminal charges,” Garcia wrote in the letter.
