When the 61st edition of the Frontier Bowl kicks off Friday night, the stakes will be reinvigorated for both the Harlandale Indians and McCollum Cowboys.

Back in March, Justin Lozano was named the new head football coach at Harlandale High School. Now, he’s putting his team to work as they prepare for the upcoming football season.

The schools appealing include Lufkin, Angleton, Houston Spring Woods, Victoria West, San Antonio Harlandale, San Antonio McCollum, and Smithville.

Added street safety measures are coming to a South Side neighborhood.

Harlandale-McCollum is a neighborhood rooted in rivalry and pride in the South Side. Generations of neighbors have asked, and answered, variations of the same question: Harlandale or McCollum? Indians or Cowboys? There’s a physical divide between the two sides of this neighborhood but also an effort to unite them, especially in times of need.

As a once-rural area with a history that's gone largely undocumented, the stories of this South Side community are best told by the generations of people who came to call it home.

SAN ANTONIO – Harlandale High School has shutdown both of its varsity and junior varsity football teams for the next three weeks following a positive coronavirus test, Harlandale Independent School District officials announced Thursday. Additionally, football practices at Harlandale High School cannot resume until Nov. 20. Junior varsity games will be allowed to continue on Nov. 26, and varsity games will resume on Nov. 27, according to the district’s announcement. Veterans Memorial has also been forced to cancel its next two games. The first game was scheduled for Friday night against Buda Johnson in Buda, and the other was scheduled for next Thursday against Dripping Springs.
