Zaria Oates joined KSAT 12 as a reporter in June 2024.
Zaria is coming to KSAT 12 from Memphis where she worked for the ABC affiliate. While in Memphis, she covered politics, the historic Tyre Nichols incident, protests and held local officials accountable for their actions and inaction.
San Antonio is far from new for Zaria. She graduated from Samuel Clemens High School in Schertz. After graduating high school, Zaria moved to Virginia to attend Christopher Newport University studying Communication and Human Rights and Conflict Resolution. Zaria then transferred to the University of Oklahoma where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and a certificate in Artificial Intelligence.
Her passion for learning and traveling continued and she went on to earn a certificate in International Security and Intelligence from King’s College London.
In her free time, Zaria plays pickleball, loves a good action movie or series and traveling. Zaria has backpacked through Austria, visited the Middle East, London, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica. She has also lived in several states across the U.S. as a military kid.
Zaria loves storytelling and politics and is excited to share San Antonio’s stories.
