San Antonio voters made their pick, and Dos Sirenos Brewing came out on top as the best brewery in the city in the 2026 SA Picks contest, presented by Gamez Law Firm. The owner and the head chef came in to mark the occasion. The brewery is gearing up for Oktoberfest season and previewed two beers not yet released to the public. The regular lineup also includes an IPA called Zeus Juice, which the owner described as one of the most popular pours. On the food side, the kitchen is leaning fully into the Oktoberfest spirit with a soft pretzel served alongside beer cheese and a chipotle honey mustard, a bratwurst ripper on a pretzel bun topped with kimchi kraut, and a schnitzel plate with mushroom gravy, Brussels sprouts, and fried potatoes.

The owner described the brewery as family friendly and pet friendly, with a covered outdoor patio, live music on Fridays and Saturdays, and regular trivia nights. Coming up on the calendar: an Oktoberfest kickoff on September 26th, a breakfast and beers event with the San Antonio beer community at Dos Sirenos to open San Antonio Beer Week in October, the San Antonio Beer Festival on October 17th, and the Burger Showdown 7.0 on October 16th.

GINO’S DELI

The other SA Picks winner spotlighted on the show was Gino’s Deli, off Huebner Road, voted best sandwich shop in San Antonio. The deli has been building a reputation quietly for years, but a recent national ranking put it firmly on the map: Yelp named it ninth best sandwich shop in the entire country. The owner talked about what keeps people coming back, pointing to the quality and freshness of the food and the friendliness of the staff. Regulars apparently compare the cheesesteaks favorably to what you would find in Philadelphia, and the shop sees a steady mix of longtime customers and first-timers. The address is 13210 Huebner Road, in the Shavano Park area near the intersection of Huebner and Lockhill Selma.

SALESIAN SISTERS GALA

They became one of the feel-good stories of the NBA Finals, the Salesian Sisters, a group of Catholic nuns whose Spurs fandom caught everybody’s attention. Now they are asking the community to return some of that warmth. The sisters are hosting their first ever gala on Saturday, October 3rd, at the University of the Incarnate Word. The event is a fundraiser aimed at supporting St. John Bosco Elementary School on San Antonio’s west side, a school the sisters have run since the 1950s. The building, constructed in that same era, needs significant investment, and enrollment has been a challenge in recent years.

St. John Bosco traces its roots to the work of the 19th century Italian priest of the same name, who built schools and trades programs for young boys. The Salesian Sisters have been operating in the United States since 1908 and in Texas since the 1930s. Globally, the order includes more than 11,500 sisters serving in 98 countries. Tickets and information for the October 3rd gala are available at salesiansissterswest.org . Gamez Law Firm is helping to sponsor the big event.

DARK SIDE PIZZA

Out in Boerne, there is a pizza restaurant unlike most others in the region. Dark Side Pizza was built around the idea of nostalgia, specifically the kind that hits anyone who grew up in the 1980s, and the owner’s personal collections are a big part of why. He is an avid Star Wars collector, and what he describes as one of the largest private Star Wars collections in the world fills the space. His wife collects Barbies spanning 1959 through the mid-1980s, and those are on display as well. The two of them opened the restaurant, which has been in business just over two years, having launched on May the 4th, as a way to share the gallery with a wider audience while serving actual food.

The menu anchors on pizza, with the meat lovers, featuring a veal meatball, holding the top seller spot. A barbecue brisket pie comes in second, and the kitchen also makes a pesto with bacon and chicken and a white margarita with pepperoni, which is the owner’s personal signature pie. Everything is made fresh, including brisket sliced to order. The restaurant recently added a full bar lounge in the back, themed around the 1987 film Predator, open to guests 21 and older. The signature drink is a smoked old fashioned, which the owner takes obvious pride in: he described a father driving his son down from Dallas specifically to try one on the young man’s 21st birthday. Within the next 30 days, a full-scale hovering DeLorean replica is set to go on display outside the building.
