BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – More than 99,000 ballots have been cast since polls opened across Bexar County, according to Bexar County Elections Administrator Michele Carew.
Although polls closed at 7 p.m., an influx of voters in line as of 8:30 p.m. delayed the release of results.

At 7 p.m., Carew said anywhere between 500 and 750 people were in line to cast their ballot across the county.
“I just think that voters were excited to come out and vote,” Carew said. “I mean, like we mentioned earlier this afternoon, as long as they were in line by 7 O’Clock they’d be eligible to cast a ballot.”
At a 4 p.m. news conference, Carew said she hoped for a voter turnout of 15% to 18%. As of 10 p.m., Carew said there was a 19.4% voter turnout, with 99,949 voters casting their ballots on Nov. 4.
“We have already shattered 2023 numbers for Election Day. I believe we surpassed that at 4 or 5 O’Clock this afternoon,” she said.
Throughout the 11 days of early voting in Bexar County, the elections department’s website shows over 140,000 residents cast ballots.

‘Numbers are still strong’
Carew said the “numbers are still strong,” with a 16.4% voter turnout. As of 3:56 p.m., 62,126 voters have cast their ballots on Nov. 4.
The busiest polling location so far is still the Brook Hollow Branch Library, while the Martin Luther King Jr. Academy for Arts is now the slowest, Carew said.
“When early voting first started, my answer was I would have liked to see 15% to 18% (voter turnout). I think we’re going to be closer to (20%),” Carew said. “I’m really excited about it. I mean, to know that the voters are not only aware of what’s on the ballot, but are excited to cast their ballots.”
The only issue that has been reported, according to Carew, is voters bringing cell phones into the polling locations and residents asking questions about the Bexar County Elections Department website.
Carew said their website has had some issues due to the transition to the Secretary of State’s system.

‘We have started off the day very strong’
During remarks in a brief 11 a.m. press conference, Carew said the turnout has been strong after polls opened Tuesday morning.
“We have started off the day very strong ... as of right this second, we have had 23,227 voters cast their ballot at all of our vote centers,” Carew said.
The busiest polling location so far has been the Brook Hollow Branch Library, while the slowest has been Spicewood Park Elementary School, she said.
Carew said the office had estimated between 50,000 and 75,000 ballots would be cast. She expected the evening to present high numbers.
No problems have been reported at polling locations. However, Carew said iPad check-ins at every location have helped expedite wait times.
