SAN ANTONIO – The Witte Museum installed a state of the art HVAC system in 2017 with the “New Witte” expansion. This HVAC upgrade installed by Shafer with the new air purification system is improving the H-E-B Body Adventure, making the visiting space safer during the coronavirus pandemic. Museum officials on Tuesday said the new system can reduce 99.4% of COVID-19 air particles within 30 minutes of use. “The air purification systems use ionization and UV light to reduce virus particles, making The Witte Museum one of the city’s most advanced attractions and cultural institutions as far as pandemic health precautions,” the release states. The Witte Museum is celebrating its first traveling exhibit of the new year and it takes a closer look at the nuts and bolts of the natural world. It’s called “The Machine Inside: Biomechanics” and it traveled from Chicago’s Field Museum. Pumps, motors, thick jaws and much more allow visitors to learn about how every machine in human bodies, plants and even animals have a function. All the information presented in The Machine Inside: Biomechanics is presented in both English and Spanish, allowing for more visitors to learn about science. But Texas surpassed the milestone for doses while lurching toward the end of the state’s deadliest month of the pandemic. Of the more than 35,000 reported COVID-19 deaths in Texas, more than 1 in 5 have come in January. But Imelda Garcia, who chairs the state panel that recommends vaccine prioritization for Texas’ nearly 30 million residents, said the Biden administration may make some changes that they’ll want to consider for the next phase. AdGarcia said Texas is “not satisfied” with the supply of vaccines and did not hint at what groups might be eligible next.

SAN ANTONIO – Known for teaching and inspiring South Texans through experiences in nature, science, and culture for nearly 100 years, the Witte museum hopes they can continue to do so. “Our calculated revenue loss for this year is between three and four million dollars, that’s a combination of membership, admissions, donations, and it’s a lot,” Marise McDermott, CEO & President Witte Museum said. But the museum still needs the community’s help -- which is why they currently have the Not Out of the Woods Yet Recovery fund. Another hit the Witte has taken is the revenue from its weddings and events which have been canceled since March. “It’s an almost 100-year-old gather place,” McDermott said.

SAN ANTONIO While the Witte Museum made the decision to suspend in-person camps through June, the summer camp will still go on in a new way. Each camper who is signed up will receive a Witte Box of Wonders, which will have everything they need to complete multiple projects and experiments. The Witte Museum will open the “Fiesta Couture: Behind the Seams” exhibit on Saturday, shining a light on the art and skill that go into the making of the dresses worn in the Coronation of the Queen of the Order of the Alamo. SAN ANTONIO San Antonios Witte Museum closed to the public a second time during the coronavirus pandemic over the weekend, but will reopen its doors again Wednesday. Katye Brought, Witte Musem vice president of communications, told KSAT the museum will be limited to 25% capacity and that all hands-on areas are temporarily closed. During this pandemic era, it is essential to reassess how to be open, regularly, president and CEO of the Witte Museum Marise McDermott said. SAN ANTONIO Both the Witte Museum and the DoSeum will be closing their doors as COVID-19 cases continue to spike across San Antonio and Bexar County. The Witte Museum announced its temporary closure Sunday, and officials said the building will be closed until Tuesday of next week. Due to the Emergency Alert regarding COVID-19, the Witte Museum will close end of business, Sunday, June 28 through Tuesday, June 30, 2020, The Witte said in a statement. SAN ANTONIO – The Witte Museum on Friday announced that the play “Ode to Juneteenth” will be brought back as part of the Gallery Theater performances that will be shown this fall. The play, written by nationally renowned playwright Eugene Lee, was first shown in 2018 as part of the Witte’s “Confluence and Culture: 300 Years of San Antonio History”. The museum said they were bringing the play back in celebration of Juneteenth. According to a press release, “Ode to Juneteenth” follows Emancipation Jones, who begins the play by illuminating and commemorating Juneteenth in San Antonio by the reading of General Order No. The daily schedule of Gallery Theater and daily demonstrations can be found on both the Witte’s website and their app.
