Construction crews struck a natural gas line in west Bexar County on Thursday, resulting in a leak, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said.

Residents in the Westfield community along Prue Road on the Northwest Side are fed up with the ongoing problem of suspected speeders crashing into backyard fences.

A 63-year-old man is in the hospital in critical condition after being hit by a car on Thursday night, San Antonio police said.

SAN ANTONIO – Northwest Side homeowners living on Prue Road are concerned about the increasing number of crashes on a segment of the road called “Dead Man’s Curve” and asking the city to find a solution to slow down drivers. Robert and Belinda Hughes say five vehicles have crashed into their backyard fence in 20 years. “Most recently, it has been occurring more frequently this last year, about a month and a half apart,” Robert said. “Everybody takes that curve like they’re speed racing because it’s such a winding road. “Although some of the long-term solutions may take time to develop, we will continue to coordinate between the City departments and neighbors.

SAN ANTONIO – Neighbors along Prue Road have been awaiting a major expansion project for a few years now, part of the 2017 Bond Program. ‘When will construction begin on the section of Prue Road between Network and Babcock Roads?” asked Gray James. “What is the estimated time to complete it?”Construction started last month, a bit behind the schedule previously provided for neighbors. The utility work requires crews to do some digging in the roadway, so there will be some alternating lane and road closures. Including utilities work, the budget for the project was estimated to be $31 million.

SAN ANTONIO – An 18-year-old woman has died following a two-vehicle car crash on the Northwest Side over the weekend. Police said the two vehicles involved in the crash, a Dodge Challenger and a Ford Mustang, were traveling westbound on Prue Road before the accident. The Challenger pulled up alongside the Mustang in the eastbound lane when the driver saw an approaching vehicle headed toward their car. The Mustang rolled over and an 18-year-old woman, who was in the rear passenger’s seat, was ejected. The other vehicle involved in the crash had two men inside, but neither of them were injured, police said.
