“The Ring of the Rowel” encompasses varying perspectives from nearly 100 people, including former and current organizational officials, players, front office staff and leaders from across the community and NBA. The personal and up-close interviews are being woven into five themes around foundation, leadership, family, culture and resilience.

The first episode, “‘99 Championship,” debuted Wednesday and takes a look back at the milestones that made the first championship season. From the lockout to the slow start to the turning point into the playoff run to the Memorial Day Miracle and the matchup against the Knicks in Madison Square Garden – every moment is revisited.

The second episode, “Origins,” recounts the genesis of the Spurs, including how the 1968 World’s Fair HemisFair was pivotal in inspiring local leaders to acquire the team from Dallas. The 10-minute episode features Red McCombs, Terry Stembridge, James Silas and Coby Dietrick and explores how the iconic San Antonio Spurs came to be. This episode will be released on Nov. 14.

“No one said it better than Jerry West – ‘50 years of excellence is a long time,’” said Morgan Dewan, VP of Content and Distribution for Spurs Sports & Entertainment. “The strong bonds on and off the court and through the front and back offices have created a winning culture, league reverence and industry intrigue. In celebration of our anniversary, we’re pulling back the curtain to honor all of those who helped establish the team in this great city and those who helped solidify it as one of the most storied franchises in the NBA.”

“The Ring of the Rowel” docuseries takes its name from the spiked ring at the end of a spur, which is often indicative of the spurs’ craftsmanship.

Fans can view each “Ring of the Rowel” episode as it’s released on the Spurs’ YouTube and Facebook channels. EVO Entertainment group will also host screenings of the documentary at select locations next spring. EVO is the official cinema and entertainment center of the San Antonio Spurs.
