KSAT’s Japhanie Gray takes on VIA’s celebrity bus operator competition during annual ‘roadeo’

VIA held its annual Roadeo, celebrating the safety and service they take seriously in the community.

SAN ANTONIO – VIA Metropolitan Transit’s Annual “Roadeo” is a family tradition within the company where bus operators, maintenance and several critical employees come together to put the skills they have perfected over time to the test.

“Here, we celebrate safety and innovation,” said VIA President and CEO John Gary Herrera. “It is actually safer on a bus than in your car. That is a testament of the driving skills that our operators have.”

Several people walked away with trophies and awards, ultimately highlighting the joy and passion behind VIA employees.

“It is all about identifying like-minded people who have an understanding about safety and interacting with public and riders,” he said.

The company has successfully hired around 100 bus operators this year, but its goal is to provide more opportunities to even more bus operators and people with a passion for serving.

“We are hiring operators and have hiring bonuses,” he said. “Come on down if you are looking for a great company to work for.”
