SAN ANTONIO – Two men from New Braunfels have pleaded guilty to buying drugs in bulk and reselling them through their website, according to federal authorities.

Evan Asher Field, 42, and Michael Dominic Diaz, 30, are each facing charges of conspiracy to defraud the United States and traffic in misbranded drugs, a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office states.

Field pleaded guilty on Tuesday and Diaz pleaded guilty on March 28.

The release states that they bought bulk quantities of different drugs, including synthetic opioids and benzodiazepines, and resold them through their website. The website was created by Field in September 2019, authorities said. Field then launched another website offering the same service in September 2021.

Authorities added that the suspects and others repackaged the drugs into customer-size containers, which were shipped throughout the country.

Most of the drugs originated in China and were not regulated or approved by the FDA. They could be deadly if ingested by humans, according to the news release.

“Despite disclaimers on the website and product packaging stating ‘for research purposes only,’ and ‘not for human consumption,’ the two defendants were aware that customers were purchasing the substances for personal use and consuming the drugs,” the release states.

Field and Diaz are scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 8. They each face up to five years in prison.

The FDA and DEA are investigating the case.
