Texas Cavaliers announce 2023 River Parade student art contest finalists, winner

Winner was announced Wednesday, March 8

SAN ANTONIO – The Texas Cavaliers announced the finalists and grand prize winner of the 2023 River Parade Art Contest last Wednesday.

The Texas Cavaliers partnered with UTSA Southwest for the contest that invited students in first through fifth grades to submit their interpretation of this year’s River Parade theme of “Fantastic Voyages.”

All winners will receive scholarships to art camps on behalf of UTSA Southwest and their vibrant artwork will get the chance to be displayed on a VIA bus. The grand prize winner will win Whataburger for a year and will be honored on a float in the Texas Cavaliers River Parade, in addition to a a scholarship to UTSA Southwest.

In addition, the Texas Cavaliers and its sponsors will donate a total of $46,000 to art programs at the schools where the winners and runners-up attend.

The Texas Cavaliers River Parade is scheduled for Monday, April 24. Apollo 16 Astronaut and retired U.S. Air Force Brigadier General Charles M. Duke, Jr. was named the celebrity honorary grand marshal for the parade.
