According to the Texas Dept. of Public Safety, a tractor-trailer that was heading from San Antonio to Sonora had pulled over on the side of the road Wednesday night due to mechanical issues.

The driver was waiting for a tow truck to arrive before the crash happened and moved to the passenger’s side of the vehicle.

Authorities said he also had his warning lights on and triangles out on the roadway to notify other drivers.

Another tractor-trailer that was incoming drove by and clipped it, according to officials.

The impact from the crash caused the incoming tractor-trailer to roll over, and it started to leak fuel, Texas DPS said.

An estimated 3,800 gallons of fuel spilled onto the roadway following the crash, according to Texas DPS. The vehicle was also carrying batteries.

Hazmat was called to the scene and is working to take care of the batteries and the fuel spill.

No injuries were reported, and the drivers of the tractor-trailers were the only ones inside of the vehicles at the time of the crash.

As of around 2 p.m., deputies said the closure is ongoing. It’s unclear how long the closure will last, but drivers heading west are urged to find an alternate route.

The eastbound lanes are open. We’ll bring more updates as they become available.
