Motorcyclist killed in crash with sedan on far North Side; driver hospitalized, charged with manslaughter, police say

Crash happened around 11:45 p.m. in 21500 block of Blanco Road

SAN ANTONIO – A motorcyclist is dead and a driver is in custody after a vehicle crash on the city’s far North Side late Sunday night, according to San Antonio police.

The crash happened around 11:45 p.m. in the 21500 block of Blanco Road, not far from Wilderness Oak in the Stone Oak area.

According to police, the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed when a Ford Focus made an illegal U-turn from a northbound lane. That’s when, police said, the motorcycle hit the driver’s side of the sedan, throwing the man off of the bike.

Police said the motorcycle rotated counterclockwise and came to a rest on a raised concrete center divider. The male motorcyclist, despite wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

SAPD said the driver of the car had to be cut from the vehicle by firefighters and was taken by EMS to University Hospital with critical injuries. He will be booked by proxy on a charge of intoxication manslaughter, police said.

The San Antonio Police Department, the San Antonio Fire Department and EMS all answered the call.

The motorcyclist killed has not been identified.
