Man sleeping under I-10 hit, killed by car after driver lost control, brakes malfunctioned, SAPD says

Police said the woman was taking a turnaround when her brakes locked

SAN ANTONIO – A man was killed after he was hit by a vehicle that malfunctioned when the driver lost control under Interstate 10 on the Northwest Side.

San Antonio police said the crash happened just after 6 a.m. Friday as the driver of the vehicle headed to work and took the turnaround under I-10 at Wurzbach Road.

The woman lost control and hit her brakes too hard, which caused them to lock up. She couldn’t steer the vehicle because of the locked brakes, and the car ran up on the sidewalk, hitting a homeless man who was asleep near a pillar, police said.

The man, believed to be in his 50s, died at the scene.

His name was not released by SAPD.

Police said the incident is under investigation, and as of now, the driver is not facing any charges.
