The Certified Broadcast Meteorologist designation is viewed as a mark of professional distinction and recognition for meteorologists.

“AMS certification holders are highly respected among their peers. Professional meteorologists have confidence that weather presentations made by CBMs will be technically sound and responsibly delivered,” according to the American Meteorological Society website states.

Spivey had to pass a written exam and was peer-reviewed by fellow certified broadcast meteorologists before receiving the distinction.

“This is a professional accomplishment that I am very proud of. I’d like to thank the many people who have helped me along my career, my family and friends, the American Meteorological Society and my wonderful coworkers at KSAT. Lastly, I’d like to thank the KSAT viewers for allowing me to do what I LOVE to do every day,” Spivey said.
