Opening date for Immersive Van Gogh exhibit in San Antonio pushed back to February 2022

If you bought tickets for the November dates, you have some options

SAN ANTONIO – People looking to walk through the artwork of famed artist Vincent van Gogh in the traveling art exhibit that was supposed to open in San Antonio this month will have to wait a little longer.

Corey Ross, the producer of Immersive Van Gogh San Antonio, sent an email to ticket holders this week apologizing and stating that the opening date for the art installation is being pushed back to Feb. 24, 2022.

The immersive art experience was originally slated to open Thursday, Nov. 18.

Visitors at Immersive Van Gogh will "step inside" the legendary works of the post-Impressionist artist like never before, entering his highly emotional and chaotic inner consciousness through art, light, music, movement, and imagination. (Michael Brosilow)

“I sincerely apologize for the late notice, but unfortunately Immersive Van Gogh San Antonio is being delayed due to venue-related issues,” Ross said via email. “We want to present the best possible show for you - to the standards we are achieving in NYC and Los Angeles, and what our artistic team achieved in Paris.”

KSAT has reached out to Van Gogh event organizers directly and has not heard back.

“I understand how frustrating this must be for you. Please know that we are working hard to welcome you to our amazing exhibit, and make it an unforgettable experience. We want to make this date-change process as easy and hassle-free as possible for you,” Ross said.

He said all ticket holders would be receiving an email from Universe.com in the coming days.

Ross didn’t mention if people who have already purchased tickets for the experience would be able to choose a new date or will be assigned one but he did say if the new date “doesn’t work for you, you can request a change.” Date changes appear to be available on the exhibit’s website.

Ross also said ticket holders have the option to switch their tickets to one of the other Texas exhibits, which are currently showing in Dallas and Houston.

Anyone looking for a refund can email ticketing@goghsanantonio.com.

When it does finally open, the exhibit will feature a curated selection of images from van Gogh’s 2,000+ lifetime catalog of masterpieces, including Mangeurs de Pommes de Terre (The Potato Eaters, 1885), Nuit étoilée (Starry Night, 1889), Les Tournesols (Sunflowers, 1888), and La Chambre à coucher (The Bedroom, 1889).

Paintings are being presented in a way that shows how Van Gogh originally saw the scenes, based on moving landscapes and active life that he turned into art.

The exhibit was designed by creative director and Italian film producer Massimiliano Siccardi with music by Italian multimedia composer Luca Longobardi.
