Driver killed after crashing with 18-wheeler in South Bexar County

Lanes on Highway 16 are now open

SAN ANTONIO – One person has died after they crashed their vehicle into an 18-wheeler and became trapped underneath it in South Bexar County, according to the sheriff’s office.

The accident happened at 5:15 a.m. Wednesday in the 20000 block of State Highway 16 South, between Loop 1604 and Smith Road.

Deputies said a Nissan Rogue was traveling southbound on the highway when an 18-wheeler apparently pulled out in front of it.

The vehicle went under the 18-wheeler and got lodged, BCSO said.

The driver of the Rogue died at the scene. The name and age of the driver have not been released.

At this time it is also unclear if the driver of the 18-wheeler sustained any injuries.

All roads in the area are now open to traffic.
