Teen shot by friend who mishandled gun, police say

Shooting is non-life threatening

SAN ANTONIO – A 15-year-old boy shot in the shoulder late Sunday is expected to survive his injuries, San Antonio police said.

The teen initially told police that he and three friends were hanging out in front of a school near the 1200 block of S. Olive Street, east of downtown when a car drove up and someone shot at them at about 11 p.m.

But after interviewing the other people at the scene, police determined that the teen was shot by someone in the car with him who mishandled a firearm.

Police found one shell casing located just outside the vehicle. Inside the vehicle, police found firearms and BB guns.

The suspect is 16, police said. It’s unclear if police will pursue charges against him, and the investigation was still ongoing Monday.
