Some San Antonio events canceled due to coronavirus (KSAT)

SAN ANTONIO – Due to concerns over the spread of the novel coronavirus, many events have been canceled in and around San Antonio and many local businesses are making changes in the way they operate.

City of San Antonio, Bexar County and Federal Office Closures:

  • All libraries are closed through April 19
  • All senior centers will be closed to the public until April 19
  • Meals to seniors will be available for pick up or delivered by the City
  • Pre-K 4 SA centers are closed through April 3
  • Head Start centers located at SAISD school district are closed through April 3
  • Municipal Court has postponed all March juvenile court mediations and all campus-based truancy forums and all jury trials have been suspended through April 23
  • Municipal Court is closed through April 6
  • Café College is closed through April 19
  • City owned and operated VITA sites are closed through April 19. For drop off options please call 211.
  • City owned galleries and museums are closed through April 19
  • Spanish Governors Palace and Mission Marquee Plaza will remain closed until April 18
  • The Mission Marquee Plaza Farmers & Artisans Markets scheduled for March 21 and April 18 are canceled at this time.
  • Parking Permit Desk at Center City Development Office is closed through April 19
  • Vital Records Office of the City Clerk is closed through April 19th. Appointment only functions will continue or by mail.
  • Bid submissions will only be accepted electronically through April 19
  • The Development Services Department (DSD) and Historic Preservation will close the public counter at One Stop Building through April 19. DSD staff will be available outside the front doors for drop-off and pick-up of project plans, applications and required documents.
  • Immunization Clinics are closed through April 19
  • WIC Clinics are closed through April 19. Curbside delivery and appointment only functions will continue.
  • Parks and Recreation indoor facilities including community and adult/senior centers, clubhouses, and gyms are closed until further notice. All programming and classes are suspended.
  • Parks reservations counter at Ron Darner Headquarters will close to the public through April 19
  • Finance will close the cashiering station on the 4 Floor of Riverview Tower through April 19. Payment will be accepted electronically. Low bid opening will be conducted on phone and online.
  • Human Resources will close the application assistance counter through April 19
  • Utility assistance office will close through April 19. Online and phone requests will be available.
  • The risk mitigation fund desk will close through April 19th. Online and phone requests will be available.
  • The desk at SAPD to request police reports will close through April 19th. Online and phone requests will be available.
  • The SAPD Department ID/fingerprint office by appointment only.
  • The SAPD impound vehicle lot will be open by appointment only.
  • The SAPD property room will open by appointment only.
  • The Public Works desk will close through April 19. Online and phone requests are available.
  • The Public Access studio will close through April 19
  • The San Antonio Water System (SAWS) is indefinitely closing access to its Headquarters Office for bill payment beginning March 18. Customers can still drop off payments at Headquarters in a lock box just inside the first glass doors or pay at the East Side Customer and West Side center or at H-E-B. Customers are encouraged to pay online at MyAccount.saws.org, or pay by phone at 210-704-SAWS.
  • Social Security offices are closed for in-person services and will offer service online or by phone at 1-800-772-1213.
  • Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is postponing or canceling its in-person public hearings and gatherings through April 3 and has closed the lobbies of its 12 Travel Information Centers until further notice. Call 1-800-452-9292 or visit drivetexas.org for road conditions.

The following business and public places have announced changes in response to the city’s Declaration of Public Health Emergency:

  • The Alamo is closed until further notice.
  • The DoSeum will be closed through March 20.
  • Frost Bank will close the lobbies at its financial centers around Texas at the end of the business day on Friday, March 20. Motor banks will remain fully staffed.
  • Gold’s Gym closed through March 31.
  • LA Fitness closed through April 1.
  • Joint Base San Antonio has closed the Historic Quadrangle, Fort Sam Houston Museum and the Army Medical Department Museum to the public.
  • The McNay will be closed to the public starting March 16 at 5 p.m. until further notice.
  • Morgan’s Wonderland will be closed through March 19.
  • Natural Bridge Caverns will be closed through the end of the month.
  • Regal theaters will close March 17 until further notice.
  • San Antonio Humane Society closed to the public until March 24.
  • San Antonio Missions National Historic Park: The park Visitor Center at Mission San Jose and the visitor contact stations at Missions Concepcion, San Juan and Espada, are closed until further notice. All ranger-led tours and special public programs have been canceled. Where it is possible to adhere to the latest health guidance, National Park grounds are remaining open from sunrise to sunset, the exception is Mission San Jose which will continue to be open from 9 am – 5 pm daily.
  • The San Antonio Museum of Art will remain closed until March 20.
  • SeaWorld will close all theme parks from March 16 through the end of the month.
  • Six Flags Fiesta Texas will be closed starting Saturday through the end of March.
  • Texas State Parks will be limiting park programming and closing public access to park headquarters, visitor centers and park stores starting at 12 p.m. Thursday, March 19. Most state parks are still open but with limited operations. Get updates: https://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/parks-map
  • USAA is suspending face-to-face operations inside the bank lobby until further notice. Drive-thru lanes are open.
  • Villa Finale: Museum & Gardens and The Edward Steves Homestead closed through April 13.
  • The Witte Museum will be closed to the public starting Saturday through March 20.

The following events in San Antonio and around the area have been canceled or postponed:

  • Alamo City Rollergirls’ season opener scheduled for March 21st postponed.
  • Alamo Heights Market scheduled for March 22 is canceled.
  • Alamo Heights Night scheduled for April 17 at the University of the Incarnate Word will not take place.
  • Aladdin performances at the Majestic Theatre scheduled for March 25 - April 12 will be postponed.
  • Ali Wong has rescheduled her Majestic Theatre performance for 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Aug. 15. She was originally scheduled to perform twice on March 14. All tickets for the original shows will be honored, but those who cannot attend the rescheduled sets can receive refunds.
  • American Organization for Immigrants Free Workshop: Understand the Naturalization and Citizenship Process is rescheduled for May 16 (Previously scheduled for March 14). For more information call 210-454-2164 or 210-250-0762
  • American Society for Health Care Engineering’s PDC Summit
  • Archdiocese of San Antonio Youth Spectacular: Walking in the Way of Love, the archdiocese’s major annual gathering for and with youth, will not be held as scheduled on March 21. All paid registration fees will be refunded.
  • The Brackenridge Park Conservancy “Evening under the Stars” Gala on March 25 has been postponed.
  • The Barbacoa and Big Red Festival cancels its 2-day even in May
  • The Catholic Television of San Antonio Leadership Luncheon, originally scheduled for March 24, will be held at a new date, on July 14, at the St. Paul Community Center at 1202 Donaldson Avenue.
  • Cesar E. Chavez March for Justice scheduled for March 28 is canceled, but the fundraiser event will go on.
  • The Classic Theatre of San Antonio is suspending all performances for the near future.
  • Dan + Shay have postponed their concert in San Antonio. The duo, originally scheduled to play March 19 at the AT&T Center, has rescheduled their stop for Aug. 1. “We want the shows to be memorable, and not experienced with fear,” the country group said in a news release.
  • Down Syndrome Association of South Texas has canceled all events and programs through March.
  • Fiesta 2020 will be postponed until November 5-15. Click here to read more.
  • H-E-B temporarily suspending Second Saturday Screenings
  • 2020 Komen San Antonio MORE THAN PINK Walk will be postponed until later this year.
  • Kenny Chesney has postponed his concerts in San Antonio, Houston, and Arlington. Chesney was set to perform April 18 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, May 22 at Minute Maid Park in Houston and May 23 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
  • Kerrville Folk Festival has been rescheduled to Oct. 8-18. This will replace the Welcome Home Fest, which will not be held in 2020.
  • Luminaria Contemporary Arts Festival scheduled for Nov. 14 has been canceled.
  • National Society of Black Engineers postponed its March 25-29 conference. A new date has not been announced.
  • The Overtime Theatre has postponed all planned productions, performances and workshops for March and April.
  • The Pearl has suspended the weekend farmers market until further notice. The Pearl is also suspending Venue Open House and all programming. Gustav’s Geysers is turned off until further notice.
  • The Pride Center has suspended all groups, events and programs until further notice but will remain open.
  • The San Antonio Book Festival scheduled from April 2-4 has been canceled.
  • The San Antonio Museum of Art will remain closed through March 20. All public programming is canceled through April 10 and school field trips are canceled through the rest of the semester.
  • San Antonio Sports canceled the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame Tribute that was scheduled for March 28 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.
  • SASH Spring Thing 5K Run/Walk will be postponed.
  • The San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame 2020 Induction Gala scheduled for March 21 has been postponed to a later date.
  • The Self Storage Association’s annual spring conference and trade show that was scheduled for March 17-19 has been canceled.
  • Southwest School of Art Saturday Morning Discovery Program is canceled for the remainder of the spring term. Adult community classes will be canceled for the remainder of the spring term beginning March 16. All events, including recruitment events, exhibition openings, receptions and visiting artists talks are canceled through the end of the Spring semester. Studios will be closed starting March 16. The Copper Kitchen Café will be temporarily closed beginning March 16.
  • San Antonio Boat & Outdoor Expo scheduled for March 27-29 at Freeman Coliseum is canceled.
  • The San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is canceling all member events and committee meetings. The Chamber Gala scheduled for March 21 has been canceled.
  • San Antonio River Walk Association’s St. Patrick’s Day events have been canceled.
  • San Antonio State Hospital is postponing its groundbreaking ceremony, planned for April 2. The ceremony is expected to take place sometime this summer, but no official date has been announced.
  • San Antonio Water System (SAWS) is postponing its annual Spring Bloom event until later this year (it was scheduled for Mar. 14). Residents can take advantage of WaterSaver coupon programs by visiting GardenStyleSA.com/coupons.
  • Selena XXV at the Alamodome scheduled for May 9 will be rescheduled. Tickets will be honored for the new date.
  • Stone Oak Ladies Night has been postponed. It was originally scheduled for March 31.
  • The third annual Taco Fest: Music Y Más has been postponed.
  • Tejas Rodeo has canceled the rodeo scheduled for this Saturday, March 21st.
  • All events scheduled at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts through April 25 will be rescheduled.
  • TobyMac’s Hits Deep 2020 Tour, which was supposed to stop in San Antonio on Aug. 16, has been postponed.
