KSAT Community spotlight: Providence Place

Nonprofit hopes to end the cycle of generational trauma through innovative services

SAN ANTONIO – In this nonprofit spotlight, KSAT Community is highlighting Providence Place, a licensed child placement agency in San Antonio.

Since 1895 Providence Place has been committed to ending the cycle of generational trauma through innovative services.

In 2020 alone, the group has served 237 survivors of human trafficking, sexual assault and domestic violence.

“Providence Place has been in existence since 1895 and provides multi-purpose programming to various populations,” said Angelica Cervantes, Chief Program Officer for Providence Place. “These include adult survivors of complex trauma, women facing an unplanned pregnancy, families with children under the age of three and children and youth in foster care.”

The agency offers transitional housing, pregnant and parenting supportive services, trauma-informed mental health services, adoption/foster care services, and other resources and referrals that help empower children and families.

“We work collaboratively to empower individuals and families that have experienced complex trauma,” said a representative for Providence Place. “

The trauma-sensitive comprehensive services provided by Providence Place strive to rebuild self-esteem and confidence within the hearts and minds of our survivors leading them toward self-sustained independence.

“Our core service components encompassing basic needs, safe and secure housing, physical health care, mental health, advocacy, and life skills address the immediate, ongoing, and long-term needs of the people we humbly serve,” said a representative for Providence Place. “We provide a safe space where people can rest, pause, and restore.”
