Federal COVID-19 drive-thru testing site at Alamodome closes Tuesday, reopens Sunday

While appointments are required, officials say wait times, lines are short

Federal COVID-19 drive-thru testing site opens at the Alamodome

SAN ANTONIO – A federal COVID-19 drive-thru testing site at the Alamodome closed at 5 p.m. Tuesday and will remain closed through Saturday, Feb. 12 because of previously scheduled events in Lot C where the testing was taking place, a Metro Health official said.

The testing site will reopen at 7 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 13 through Feb. 21, said Metro Health Public Relations Manager Rudy Arispe.

The site, which was opened by the city with support from the Texas Division of Emergency Management on Jan. 18, will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week when it reopens.

“There haven’t been any long lines or wait times, so this is a great option for those looking to get tested,” Arispe said.

City officials said Bexar County is one of six counties approved to have a federal testing site established as requested by Gov. Greg Abbott.

The testing site will use a shallow nasal PCR test. City officials said results are anticipated to be returned within 48 hours, and results for tests done Sunday will be provided within 72 hours.

The current testing capacity at the Alamodome is 1,200 tests per day with the option to expand as needed, city officials said.
